History's Runway: Portrait of a Hungarian Farmwife, 1942

Daveland

As part of the program initiated by Queen Mary during World War I to document life at the time of the Great War across Britain, the artists selected by the crown chronicled the places and people which made up the heart of the United Kingdom.  By the time of the Second World War, the program had expanded to include other countries.

This painting, for example, shows a typical Hungarian Farm wife, still wearing the traditional garb worn by her ancestors.

Actually...

April Fool's.

This is a lovely portrait of Eva Gabor by Americo Makk circa 1965 which once was displayed at the Paley Center.  Eva is wearing a green chiffon strapless gown designed by Nolan Miller. Both were recently auctioned off together.
